Reading Hospital is one of two hospitals within Berks County which has a population of over 400,000 potential patients, serving patients with diverse socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds.
The Emergency Department is well equipped and staffed by ancillary services to support the educational mission and clinical workload.
ED is equipped with three dedicated ED CT scanners, a radiologic suite for plain radiographs, as well as multiple portable digital radiography machines. MRI and ultrasound studies are also available 24/7 and there is a dedicated ultra-sonographer who is housed in the ED at all times. Point of care ultrasounds are also available for bedside evaluation.
ED is over 88,000 square feet with five dedicated treatment areas to treat a variety of patient complains.
